Official Schedule for the 37th America’s Cup Released: Racing Begins on August 22 with the Final Preliminary Regatta
With the publication of the official racing schedule by America’s Cup Events (ACE), preparations for the 37th America’s Cup are in full swing. The upcoming two months promise to be intense, demanding unwavering dedication and focus from all participating teams.
Kick-off with the Final Preliminary Regatta
The action kicks off on August 22 with the opening ceremony and the start of the third and final Preliminary Regatta. This marks a highly anticipated moment as teams will race with the newly designed AC75 yachts for the first time. This regatta sets the stage for the main events, giving teams the chance to test their strategies and boats in competitive conditions.
Challenger Selection Series: The Louis Vuitton Cup
Following the Preliminary Regatta, the Challenger Selection Series, known as the Louis Vuitton Cup, begins on August 26 and runs until October 5. This phase includes two Round Robin tournaments where each team races against every other team twice. The series features five challengers competing alongside the Defender, Emirates Team New Zealand. However, the results of matches against the Defender will not affect the overall standings.
At the end of the Round Robin phase, the team with the lowest score will be eliminated. The remaining four teams will advance to the semifinals, scheduled from September 14 to 19. These semifinals will be contested in a best-of-nine format, where the first team to secure five victories advances to the finals. The top-ranked team from the Round Robin will have the advantage of selecting their semifinal opponent.
The Road to the America’s Cup Final
The Louis Vuitton Cup finals will take place from September 26 to October 5. This stage will be a best-of-13 series, with the first team to win seven races earning the right to challenge the Defender, Emirates Team New Zealand, in the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup Match. The main event will be held from October 12 to 21, also following a best-of-13 format.
Youth and Women’s America’s Cup
In addition to the main competitions, the calendar includes events for youth and women’s teams, featuring the AC40 monohulls. These events provide a platform for emerging talent and showcase gender diversity in sailing.
The Youth America’s Cup will feature fleet races culminating in a match race final between the top two teams. This final is scheduled to occur between races 1 and 2 of the Louis Vuitton Cup final on September 26, 2024.
Similarly, the Puig Women’s America’s Cup will follow a similar format, with its final taking place between races 3 and 4 of the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup on October 13, 2024.
