Suardiaz and Ghio Crowned 2024 Wingfoil World Champions

A Stunning Finale in Jericoacoara

The 2024 Wingfoil Racing World Cup concluded in spectacular fashion in Jericoacoara, Brazil, with the crowning of Nia Suardiaz and Mathis Ghio as the new world champions. Under perfect conditions of sunshine and 20-knot winds, the world’s best wingfoil athletes battled fiercely for the ultimate prize in their sport.

Nia Suardiaz: The Queen of Wingfoil Racing

Spanish teenager Nia Suardiaz delivered an extraordinary performance, clinching both the event victory in Jericoacoara and the 2024 world title. With her exceptional speed and precision, Suardiaz outpaced defending champion Maddalena Spanu in the final race to secure her place at the top of the sport.

“I’m beyond thrilled to end the season like this,” Suardiaz said. “Winning both the event and the world title is a dream come true. I’m so grateful to everyone who has supported me on this journey.”

At just 17 years old, Suardiaz becomes the third different champion in three seasons, cementing her status as one of the brightest stars in wingfoil racing. Italian Maddalena Spanu claimed second place in both the event and overall rankings, while Poland’s Karolina Kluszczynska secured third in the season standings.

Mathis Ghio: A Third Consecutive World Title

In the men’s division, France’s Mathis Ghio once again proved his dominance, securing his third consecutive world championship. Although he placed third in the Jericoacoara event behind Poland’s Kamil Manowiecki and Italy’s Francesco Cappuzzo, Ghio’s consistent excellence throughout the season ensured his place at the top of the standings.

“This title means everything to me,” Ghio said. “The competition was tougher than ever this year, but I’m proud to have stayed strong and kept pushing until the end. I’ll work hard over the winter to be even better next season.”

Manowiecki, who won the event in Jericoacoara and also triumphed in Sardinia earlier in the season, emerged as a serious contender. “Winning two events this season shows I’m on the right path,” Manowiecki said. “Next year, my goal is clear—I want the world title.”
