SailGP Inspire Program: Nurturing the Future of Sailing

Join the SailGP Inspire Movement – Transform the Future of Sailing!

As the anticipation builds for the KPMG Australia Sail Grand Prix | Sydney on February 24-25, SailGP’s dedicated community, education, and outreach initiative, Inspire, makes a triumphant return.
This initiative is not just about the world’s best sailing athletes competing in the eighth event of SailGP Season 4; it’s about nurturing the future of sailing by providing 400 young people with the chance to be a part of the SailGP Inspire program.

By partnering with local sailing clubs and organizations, the program aims to offer young individuals the ultimate educational experience, aligning with the global league’s commitment to creating a better sport and a better planet through its Race for the Future initiative.

Adopt-a-Club Program: Fostering Sailing Enthusiasm

Under the Inspire Adopt-a-Club program, all 10 competing nations in the SailGP league are actively involved, recognizing that sailing organizations and clubs serve as the entry point for many young people to the world of on-water activities. The pairings for the Adopt-a-Club program at the KPMG Australia Sail Grand Prix | Sydney include:

  • Australia – Northbridge Sailing Club
  • New Zealand – Connells Point Sailing Club
  • Spain – Woollahra Sailing Club

Inspire Learning, Racing, and Careers Program Returns

Alongside the Adopt-a-Club initiative, SailGP welcomes back the Inspire Learning, Racing, and Careers Program in Sydney. With 200 local school-aged youth participating in behind-the-scenes tours of SailGP Team bases and an afternoon at the Australian National Maritime Museum, the program aims to provide a comprehensive educational experience about the maritime history of Australia.

Furthermore, 33 young people will have the opportunity to engage with world-class athletes through SailGP Inspire Careers and Racing programs. This initiative seeks to increase diversity and accessibility to the sport and the wider sailing industry, providing genuine racing, careers, and learning pathways for the next generation.

Identifying Talents: Inspire Racing x WASZP Program

The SailGP Inspire program, in collaboration with WASZP, serves as a genuine talent identification pathway for young sailors to gain exposure on the world stage. Eighteen participants in the Inspire Racing x WASZP program, including talents like Hanako Tomishima, Heidi Ferguson, and Bridget Conrad, were selected based on their applications, representing various sailing clubs.

Careers Candidates: Shaping the Future of Sailing Industry

Fifteen Careers Candidates will be part of the Inspire program, contributing to various aspects of the sailing industry. Individuals like Maja Hansson-Mild, Michael Parks, and Emma Rankin will be involved in shore teams, technical roles, videography, and more, shaping the future of the sailing industry.

Emma Humphries, Australian Sailing National Event, Class, and Youth Manager, expresses excitement about SailGP’s impact on members: “The impact SailGP has on our members each year is quite amazing. Congratulations to the 10 clubs selected for the Adopt-a-Club Program.”
